About this calculator
Prime factorization expresses a whole number as a product of prime numbers. This calculator divides out the smallest primes in turn until only 1 remains, then groups repeated primes into exponent form. For example 360 = 2³ × 3² × 5. It also flags whether the number itself is prime.
Frequently asked questions
What is prime factorization?
It is writing a number as a product of primes. 360 = 2 × 2 × 2 × 3 × 3 × 5, usually written 2³ × 3² × 5.
How can I tell if a number is prime?
A prime has exactly one prime factor — itself. If the factorization is just the number on its own, it is prime.
