About this calculator
A business days calculator counts only the weekdays — Monday to Friday — between a start and end date, ignoring Saturdays and Sundays. You can include or exclude the end date, subtract public holidays that fall on weekdays, and see the result as weeks-and-days and as estimated working hours. It is the tool for payroll, project deadlines and shipping estimates.
Behind the scenes it walks every date in the range, keeps the Mondays through Fridays and drops the Saturdays and Sundays, then subtracts whatever number of weekday holidays you enter. Because it does not carry a country-by-country holiday list, you supply the count of public holidays that land on a weekday inside your range and it removes them. The business-day total is also multiplied by your hours-per-day figure to estimate paid working hours, and expressed as whole work-weeks plus leftover days.
As a worked example, from Monday 1 December 2025 to Friday 26 December 2025 there are 20 weekdays; enter 1 holiday for Christmas Day (which falls on a Thursday that year) and the calculator reports 19 business days, roughly 152 working hours at 8 hours a day. Typical uses include counting how many working days are in a month for payroll, sizing a project schedule, or checking a "ships in 5–7 business days" delivery estimate.
Frequently asked questions
Are the start and end dates included?
By default yes — the count is inclusive of both ends, matching most payroll and "networkdays" conventions, so a Monday-to-Friday span is five business days. Switch "Count the end date" to Exclude under advanced options to count the gap between the dates instead.
How are public holidays handled?
The calculator does not know each country’s holiday calendar, so enter the number of holidays that land on a weekday within your range and it subtracts them from the business-day total.
How are working hours estimated?
The business-day count is multiplied by the hours-per-working-day value (8 by default), giving a quick estimate of total working hours in the range.
How many working days are in a typical month?
Most calendar months contain 20 to 23 weekdays. Set the start to the first of the month and the end to the last day, exclude any public holidays, and the calculator gives the exact figure for that specific month and year.
Does it count Saturday as a business day?
No. This tool treats Monday to Friday as working days and always skips both Saturday and Sunday. If your work week differs, count the extra or fewer days manually against the total it reports.
What counts as a business day for shipping and settlement?
For couriers, banks and stock settlement a business day is a normal weekday that is not a public holiday. Enter the weekday holidays inside your window so the count matches the carrier or bank calendar.
Why is the business-day count lower than the calendar days?
Every seven calendar days contain only five weekdays, so weekends steadily pull the working-day figure below the total. The tool shows both numbers plus the weekend days it removed so you can see the difference.
